After a VERY positive appointment with Dr. Berney, William has a clean bill of health minus the whole allergy thing. After some discussion and explanations of how allergies, asthma, and eczema can all be linked together (but don't have to be) we decided that doing a COMPLETE allergy food test would be the best for William. He went through the first third of the testing today and will have two more appointments before he will be finished. He was tested for 32 foods and had amazing results, some almost instantly. Corn, Almonds, Cherries, Cantaloupe, Blackberries, Blueberries, and Chocolate (Cocoa) had the worst of the reactions. There were only 4 or 5 of the foods that he did NOT react to at all. Dr. Berney told me before going into the testing that there may be some things that will react on the skin but may not cause any other reaction. After the third set of testing, William will see Dr. Berney again to determine the best way to proceed with his allergy avoidance and when the best time to reintroduce foods that we have not seen reactions to back into his diet. These will be introduced at a slow rate.
After having such unsettling results after our trip to Denver I feel that we are finally getting somewhere and have a better idea of what to keep out of his diet. Dr. Berney has decided to keep William on Vitamin D at 800 UIs a day (a tolerable level for William) in hopes that his count will continue to come up, but not push the toxicity level.
William and I were both pleased with Dr. Berney, but the excitement came when William got to pick out three treasures after being a big boy and allowing for the allergy tests to be done. Thank you for all of the thoughts and prayers.
